 Cali

A therapy dog for the PAWS to Read program, is a four year old golden doodle. She is part golden retriever, part poodle. She is part of the therapy dog program at the Richland Public Library. We purchased Cali in Redmond, Oregon, She was a pretty funny looking puppy with hair going every which way but she has turned into a very cute dog that makes people smile. She has another dog and two cats in her home. Cali is part of the therapy dog group called “Love on a Leash”. In addition to visiting the library, Cali also visits retirement homes, clinics and Washington State University prior to finals week. We haven’t found a venue that she doesn’t like. She likes all ages and makes people smile. We both love to get acquainted with people and to hopefully make their day a little brighter

 Dani

Full name: Pien Ji’s Beautiful Dangerous Nickname: Dani  Dani is a two year old Shih Tzu who thinks she’s a princess and she loves lacy things. However with “Dangerous” as a last name, she’s not afraid to hang out with big guys – soldiers and veterans being some of her favorite people. She’s a sweet coquette topeople with walkers and wheelcharis; a tomboy to anyone who will toss her mini tennis ball; and a darling enchantress coaxing giggles and smiles from the shyest child or tired adult. That’s why the middle name is “Beautiful!”

Hershey

He is a Chocolate Labrador Retriever born March 13, 2010 in Idaho. He weighs about 57 lbs and eats like a horse and runs and runs and runs. He is kind of spastic and runs into everything and everyone but he just bounces off and keeps on going. He was born with a congenital defect called Cerebellar hypoplasia, which is a disorder found in cats and dogs in which the part of the brain known as the cerebellum (which controls motor functions) is not completely mature at birth. We immediately enrolled him an AKC Star puppy class and he graduated on Aug 8, 2010. He was approved by TDI as a therapy dog on June 21, 2012. We are all so proud of Hershey.

 Jack

A Golden Retriever. He enjoys going to the library to listen to all his friends read to him. They are such good readers! My mom takes me running in the desert where I get to sniff for jackrabbits, birds, snakes and squirrels. My mom makes sure I stay away from skunks. Whew! My favorite foods are pumpkin, peas and carrots and pickled asparagus. I do not like lettuce. Elvis, our family cat, lets me lick her bowl clean. I love cat food.

Rita

My name is Margarita but I go by 'Rita for short. My mom rescued me from the pound two years ago, but so don't know exactly how old I am or exactly where I came from. I am probably 5 years old and at least part American Staffordshire Terrier. Yes, I am one of the dogs people call a pit bull. I also compete in agility and like to run. I am a certified therapy dog. I am very gentle and loyal and I hope to show people that not all pit bulls are mean. Please come read to me and you will see how sweet I am.

Her favorite pastimes are fishing and swimming (although she’s never caught a fish yet) Scout hates carrots, but loves cherries and tomatoes. She likes to eat tomatoes right from the vine (even though that makes her mom very mad!)

Shreq

A red Doberman Pinscher who takes his work very seriously. He visits hospitals, care centers and libraries throughout the Tri-Cities. Shreq loves cheese - slices, chunks, shredded, paste, he doesn't care as long as it is cheese. He was born in New Jersey, flew to Oregon at 4 months. He became a Champion Doberman Pinscher at 11 months and moved to Kennewick at 15 months to become a Therapy Dog. Along the way he earned some obedience titles, awards for his therapy work, and many many friends. He does many kinds of therapy work including listening to kids read stories at the library! Now he teaches by example as teams follow him around learning to be therapy dogs also.
