Understanding the Addiction Epidemic
A presentation by Michele S. Gerber, PhD.
Thursday, October 19
7 PM, Richland Public Library
Hosted by Friends of the Richland Public Library
This lecture will inform and educate listeners about the public health crisis of addiction currently occurring in our nation, state and region. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the Surgeon General, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Office of National Drug Control Policy, President Donald Trump, Washington Governor Jay Inslee and many others have called the present rise in addiction in our country an epidemic. This lecture will include current levels of the problem, key new information about the brain science involved in addiction, dynamics and issues of families with an addicted loved one, and grassroots efforts to deal with addicts and combat addiction. The talk will conclude with suggestions about what listeners can do to help address this problem.
