Newton:Rebuilding Lives and Community 1:30 PM

Monday, April 29

After the shooting stops and the smoke clears, how does a community recover from an "active shooter" event? Now referred to only as "12/14", what happened in the aftermath? The impact on the populous is heartbreaking. How did city government departments rise to meet unforeseen challenges? Mary Schoenfeldt, Public Education Coordinator, Everett Office of Emergency Management recently went to Newtown to meet with fire, police and community leaders to review, among other issues Donations Management, Volunteer Coordination (invited and walk-ins), public Information (the massive invasion), First Responder Challenges, City and Community Impacts, School: transition to another facility, how faculty and students are coping. Mary was called to Newtown based on her experiences with Columbine and other high profile school-centered events. A dynamic speaker, Mary will share with us her experiences and lessons learned.
